We’ve reached the eagerly anticipated awards ceremony as the tenth edition of Casalgrande Padana’s Grand Prix International Architecture competition reaches its climax and reveals the winners.
The ceremony is set to take place on 27 May in the wonderful setting of the IUAV in Venice, as part of an exclusive event organised as part of the 15th Biennale di Venezia International Architecture Exhibition.
A highlight of the evening will undoubtedly be the keynote address from Simone Sfriso, a founding partner of TAMassociati and the curator of the Italian Pavilion at the Biennale.
It is the culmination – the crowning glory – of a two-year journey that has once again placed architecture at the centre of the debate.
We’ve seen some stunning design across the works selected, with ceramics the perfect vehicle to showcase the designers’ ability to interpret the present using traditional materials to create something contemporary with the help of innovative technology.
The Grand Prix 2013/15 will reach its climax with a glittering awards ceremony, during which the projects given special mention and the winners in each category of this year’s competition will be announced.

There is surely no better place for such a spectacle than the Tolentini Complex, the historic home of the IUAV in Venice, with the Faculty of Architecture’s Aula Magna hosting the occasion on 27 May. It’s no coincidental choice of date and place, given that the entire architectural community – of Italy and of the whole world – will be in the city for the 15th Biennale di Venezia International Architecture Exhibition preview (Chilean architect and Pritzker Prize 2016 winner Alejandro Aravena is curating), making it an important
moment for both Venice and Italy, but not only.

The IUAV is a fitting venue, too. The university has always been a place of international architectural debate, not just for its extraordinary deans and sprawling library (it’s one of the biggest in Europe in the field), but also for the uniqueness of the building itself.

The interior of the Tolentini Complex’s Aula Magna was designed by Carlo Scarpa and expertly fuses functionality with aesthetics and attention to detail with a sense of proportion. These were areas dear to the great Scarpa’s heart and, indeed, are among the most relevant architectural themes today.

The projects selected for the Grand Prix 2013/15 are:
• Studio Kunyho Epitèsziroda kft for the Klauzal Market
• Studio Stelmach i Partnerzy for the Zamkowe Tarasy Gallery
