QUILT is a stoneware mosaic in which the modules can be installed uniformly, for a geometrical effect, or at random, in an uneven layout that recalls antique Venetian Seminato pavings. As for the stitching, the grout creates the pattern. With Quilt, the traditional mosaic chip is expanded in size to create contemporary visual effects which can be personalised every time, just like a hand-stitched piece. The different colours and textures available enhance this potential.

The project is produced as a 9x9 cm square of through-body porcelain stoneware scored so that a segment can be broken off from the rest of the material after grouting.

Patchwork belongs to an age-old hand-crafted tradition, in which the combined pieces always create a unique geometrical pattern. “Looking through an old English book on patchwork  – said the designer Marialaura Rossiello for Studio Irvine - I discovered the art of quilting, in which patchwork pieces are combined by stitching which is decorative in its own right. I applied this concept for Mosaico+“.

The project runs on three basic tones: Chalk, Clay and Mud. Every different colour is available in both smooth and textured version (RAW). Starting from the three basic colours, more tone are added and each clove comes in a different range depending on the belonging chip: 3 variants on Chalk (Ocher, Cameo, Sugar Paper), one on Clay (Mud) and one on Mud (Slate).

The tiles, realized in porcelain stoneware, can be laid in a regular pattern, to create a sequence of geometrical figures, or unevenly. The grout is 3 mm thick.
